Good Evening Bobcats,
Congratulations to all of our students for completing their finals and wrapping up the first trimester of the year. As our students relish in their accomplishments, I’m excited to share an exciting honor that was bestowed upon our Bobcat students and staff. This week, the College Board, which oversees Advanced Placement Exams, released their annual AP Honor Roll Awards for 2023/24 school year. Approximately 30% of schools in the nation receive this recognition, which is represented by four medals- Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The College Board also gives schools an additional “Access” recognition for schools that also demonstrate equitable outcomes for traditionally underrepresented demographic groups. For the second year in a row, the College Board awarded Sage Creek High School with the “Gold Award w/ Access”. This level of award puts Sage Creek in the top 14% of all schools in the nation and in the company of just a small handful of schools in San Diego County. You can see a full list of all Honor Roll schools here.
This is a tremendous honor for not only our students but our entire school community. Even though AP tests are just one measure of academic achievement, they are an important measure of our student’s college-going potential because it measures achievement in college-level work. The most exciting part of the award is the “Access” designation because it reflects the commitment of Sage Creek to expanding academic success to traditionally underrepresented student groups. While we certainly consider the AP passing rate, we encourage more and more students each year to take the leap and enroll in an AP class sometime in their high school career. Not only are students getting access to college level work, but they can go deeper into content and topics they are interested in. Congratulations Bobcat students!
Lastly, we’re very excited to be hosting the Community Compassion Day, this coming Thursday, November 21st from 4-6pm in the gym. This is a Genius Project by senior Avi Mendels to help Sage students learn about the experiences of those in our community with a disability. The event will have interactive experiences that demonstrate how people of various abilities navigate the community. We will have guest speakers who will inform and inspire our community to be more compassionate and inclusive. Be sure to come to the gym form 4-6pm on Thursday, November 21st.
