Principal's Message

Sage Creek HS PrincipalGreetings Bobcats!

It is an honor to begin my second year as the principal of Sage Creek High School. As a teacher and administrator in San Diego County for over 20 years and a resident of Carlsbad for 19 years, I have watched as the founders of SCHS built this school into one of the premiere learning institutions in our county. With the intention of building an “interconnected learning community that prepares students to thrive as responsible citizens in an ever-changing world”, Sage Creek has produced exceptional academic results: Top 3 in the county in academic performance in math, ELA, and Science in 2023; a Gold Medal, with Access designation in the 2023 College Board’s AP Honor Roll; and earning California Distinguished School in 2021. After 11 years, Sage Creek has lived up to its promise to the Carlsbad community.

What will the next 10 years look like at Sage Creek? As we know, the future of college and career is changing drastically and more rapidly than ever. In just a few years AI and machine learning has emerged as the fastest growing job market, while technology, digitalization, and sustainability are predicted to be the fastest emerging industries (The Future of Jobs Report, 2023). As colleges and careers are becoming more globalized and diverse, industry leaders are calling on schools to focus on critical thinking skills, creativity, leadership, and social influence. In order to meet these demands and ensure our students thrive in this new global landscape, SCHS will focus on strengthening a learner-centered, future-ready educational experience.

As we move forward together and further articulate what it means to be learner-centered and future-ready, we begin with guaranteeing the foundational skills needed to access essential content, coupled with the social-emotional skills to maintain health, balance, and well-being. While academic achievement remains paramount, education is still, at its very core personal and community development. I look forward to working with our broader school community, whether it be scientific or technological discovery, knowledge of self and the environment, or discovering the skills for each student to function in a family, community, and productive member of society.

Be you,

Josh Way, Ed.D
