Posted Date: 10/29/26 (09:00 AM)
Dear Parents and Families,
Have you ever considered welcoming an international exchange student into your home?
CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) is looking for welcoming host families for two wonderful students from Italy and Germany who are excited to
experience American high school life during the 2027–2028 school year!
Hosting an exchange student is an incredible opportunity to share your family's traditions, learn about another culture, and create lifelong friendships. We'd love to
introduce you to two students who are hoping to become part of a local family!
Meet Niccolo' from Italy!
Age: 17 | Arrival: August 2027 | Stay: 5 months (Fall semester)
Niccolo' is a friendly, curious, and ambitious student from northern Italy who loves staying active, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures! He is especially excited to experience American high school traditions and become part of a host family.
Niccolo's interests include:
- Playing tennis, soccer, and basketball
- Cooking and experimenting with new recipes
- Traveling and exploring new places
- Hoping to try American football
- History, law, economics, and current events
- Spending time with animals — he has a golden retriever at home!
Meet Nieke from Germany!
Age: 15 | Arrival: August 2027 | Stay: 10 months (Full school year)
Nieke is a cheerful, outgoing, and thoughtful student from southern Germany! She comes from a close-knit family with two sisters and loves spending time with family and friends. She's excited to experience American culture, make new friendships, and participate in school activities!
Nieke's interests include:
- Track and field, skiing, and other sports
- Singing in her school choir and listening to music
- Reading and learning new things
- Cooking and sharing traditional German recipes
- Hoping to join a school sports team, such as volleyball or soccer
- Art, painting, and creative activities
What Does It Take to Be a Host Family?
Hosting is easier than you might think! Host families come in all shapes and sizes, including families with children, empty nesters, single adults, and retirees.
Host families are asked to:
- Provide a welcoming, safe, and supportive home.
- Provide a bed and appropriate sleeping space (a private bedroom is not
- required).
- Provide daily meals and include the student in family activities.
- Help the student with transportation to and from school and school-related
- activities.
- Treat the student as a member of the family!
- Students arrive with their own spending money and health insurance.
- Host families are volunteers and are not financially compensated.
- Students are supported by a local CIEE coordinator throughout their exchange.
- Host families complete an application, background checks, and a home visit
- before approval.
We would love for you to consider welcoming Niccolo' or Nieke into your home for the upcoming school year!
Not able to host? You can still make a difference! Please consider sharing their stories with friends, relatives, neighbors, or anyone in your community who might be
interested. Sometimes, all it takes is one connection to help an exchange student find their American host family!
