10th Grade Assembly - Evolution & Harm of Hate Speech; 9/30
Dear 10th Grade Families,
Carlsbad Unified School District is committed to making sure our campuses are inclusive for every student. In our effort to do that, we have invited Mr. Don Dumas, an award-winning educator and leader to speak to our 7th & 10th grade students about the evolution and harm of hate-speech, particularly the n-word.
On September 30th, during periods 2 and 3, Mr. Dumas will skillfully take Sage Creek students on a moving journey through the historical experience of African Americans. He will cover the historical conceptions of the n-word and how it has changed over time, yet still negatively affects African American and other students. The presentation will close by discussing the importance of unity and empowerment in making our campuses a place where everyone thrives.
10th Grade students at Sage Creek High School will be split into two different assemblies in the PAC. Half will attend the assembly during period 2 and the other half will attend during period 3. Your student's teacher will communicate to students which assembly they will attend.
