Incident on Cannon Rd.

Posted Date: 05/05/26 (01:30 PM)

Good Afternoon Sage Creek Families,

I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon involving one of our students. At approximately 1:15 p.m., following AP testing, a Sage Creek High School student checked out of the office and left campus to walk to the nearby bus stop near El Camino Real. At approximately 1:30 p.m., as the student approached the bus stop, they were confronted by an individual who appeared to be transient. Without provocation, the individual assaulted the student.

Emergency services were immediately contacted. Our on-site School Resource Officer, along with responding Carlsbad Police officers, arrived promptly and arrested the individual. Based on the information available, the incident appears to have been random, occurring as the student was walking to the bus stop. The student sustained minor injuries and was subsequently released to their parents.

While incidents like this are rare in our area, this serves as an important reminder for students to remain aware of their surroundings, walk with others when possible, and have a way to contact help if needed.

Our Sage Creek team is working closely with the student and their family to provide support. Additionally, our School Resource Officer will be increasing presence and ensuring resources are available in the surrounding area.

As always, student safety remains our top priority. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
