Today’s Brain Nugget: How come when we tell ourselves “5 more minutes” on Instagram or TikTok, we end up doomscrolling for another half hour? Social media produces dopamine in our brains that make us want to continuously scroll through short, funny videos. The endless loop reduces attention span and weakens the emotional center of the brain. An addiction to social media is as severe as an addiction to gambling. For your brain’s sake, limit screen time on social media, and resort to challenging activities to reset the reward pathway.
