Day Of Understanding, 12/10 & 11
Good Evening Sage Creek Parents,
We are excited to present the Day of Understanding program here at Sage Creek on December 10-11th. This unity and culture-building program is brought to you in partnership with the SCHS PTSA and the Sage Creek Foundation. The event begins on Wednesday, December 10, when all students will watch a school-wide assembly during an extended advisory class. The next day, Thursday, December 11, 150 selected students and 50 student leaders will participate in a 4-hour community building activity in the gym from 8:30am-12:30pm. The goal of the Day of Understanding is to improve the climate of our school by bringing us together through open and honest communication. The Day of Understanding will create an environment that will give students a chance to share how they feel and why they feel that way. Each participating student will have a chance to hear and learn about each other so that they can realize that we are in this together and we can help each other. When this happens, a positive culture is established.
School culture is affected by such things as bullying, no or low expectations, separatism, apathy, and hate-motivated speech. This is why Day of Understanding concentrates on creating an environment that can open doors to the possibilities of moving beyond these things and finding common ground. Fear has created a culture where people feel they are all alone. At Sage Creek, we strive for relationships that are healthy, strong, and supportive of everyone in it. If we can create a healthy school climate students can thrive. Which is why we are excited to invite Keith Hawkins to lead the Day of Understanding. Keith Hawkins is a National Youth speaker and Leadership Consultant. He has been speaking across North America for over two decades. He speaks to half a million students and educators each year. We are excited to work with Keith Hawkins in building a community where students feel empowered to be stewards of a positive climate and culture at Sage Creek.
We Build,
